Justin,

I am happy for you that you had the opportunity to attend such a gathering.
I totally agree that water and sanitation is not a flashy affair and there is great need for more innovative solutions to the prevailing water and sanitation conditions especially in the developing world.

Thank you for the summary, you captured it so well.

Justin, I am thrilled you could be there to represent the Student Leaders. What you failed to mention is that you were there because you have demonstrated along with several others the incredible capacity of college students to embrace this case and have an impact in this sector. The quality of your summary and insights is further testament to this. It's so thrilling to have you as part of this work with us and to think of everything that is ahead for you. Thank you for this thoughtful summary.

Justin, I applaud your attention to this issue, but I disagree with your conclusion that falsely portraying contributions to a general pool as targeted at specific individuals positively mobilizes support. I believe that contributors attracted to supporting an individual are betrayed by the deception and become more cynical, especially because the donor would be foolish to trust the agency again.

First of all, I can't believe you quoted Miley Cyrus. That's hilarious.

Second, here is my personal favorite:

“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in a square hole, the ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them, because they change things. While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” - Steve Jobs

I've been watching ethicaland green investing take shape for about forty years. Global consciousness on this subject has changed radically in the past few years and is now more accepting than at any time previously. It's clear that if we want an Earth to support our future generations, we have to begin to take care of it now!

Incidentally, for anyone interested in green and ethical investing, I have one of the most popular global sites on the web on the subject. It also covers the latest related news and research too. It's at http://investingforthesoul.com/

Best wishes, Ron Robins

YES. I love charity:water precisely because of all the traits you mentioned. I wonder, though, why it has been so difficult for other NGOs to really put on such a professional image and ensure money goes directly to on the ground projects? Perhaps charity:water has been so lucky to gain incredible amounts of funding that they have enough resources to have such amazing marketing and tracking of all their well projects. It just makes me wonder how this success can be replicated by other NGOs.

Hi Justin!

I just stumbled across your blog from the Acumen Fund community. I'm a student blogging about similar issues, and I love your blog (and I'm also a political science senior)! You're doing a great job so far and are writing about topics I always think about on my blog, as well. I'm subscribing.

I love Chris Blattman's blog though I've never met him - his blogging is inspiring me to approach some of my professors and try to get them blogging too. Haha.
